Take your designs from paper to clay in this Print On Clay workshop!
This Fall! September 18-19
Take your designs from paper to clay in this “print on clay” class. Catie Miller will demonstrate the mono-printing transfer method she uses to add colorful graphic imagery to her functional ceramics on a variety of prepared and constructed pieces. Watch her demonstrate both wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Catie will construct and form shapes that are great “canvases” for illustration. Color, scale, and composition will be reviewed on each piece. She will also share her personal attraction and technical rational behind colored slips vs. underglazes. During the workshop, handouts will be distributed, recipes shared,
ideas for DIY tools, small scale production tips, and problem solving in the studio. Then the making begins! Using simple molds and templates along with colored slips, students will get to try out this technique to enhance their clay surfaces. Participants are encouraged to come with images or themes they want to explore along with questions.
Catie Miller Bio
Catie Miller currently works as a studio potter from her home studio in Fargo, North Dakota.
Catie has always had a desire to create, starting at age 7 with her collection of pencil and crayon drawn cartoon characters. After graduating from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics and a Bachelor of Science in art education, Miller was chosen for a two-year artist residency at Red Star Studios in Kansas City, Missouri. The residency allowed her to foster relationships with a variety of talented artists, which through meaningful daily conversations allowed her to explore new ways to create a voice with her work.
Miller’s artwork has been exhibited and collected around the US and internationally. She has also had her work featured in Ceramics Monthly along with several regional publications.
Since her return to North Dakota, she continues to embrace many opportunities to work within the art community, teach workshops throughout the Midwest, embrace motherhood, and relax with her husband and small dog watching crime mysteries.
