Instructor: Amy Menasché
Adult students (18+) must be enrolled in another clay (wheel or handbuilding) class at Railyard Arts to take this supplemental class!
Are you an adult interested in wheel throwing as well as handbuilding? Or an adult Railyard Arts student who wants to explore both wheel throwing and handbuilding? This may be the class for you! This 2-hour class will include instruction on every stage of the wheel throwing process, from wedging the clay, centering it on the wheel, and shaping it into a form, to controlling the drying process, trimming, and glazing. You will be free to work at your own pace and on your own project wish list. The class will also include demos on how to combine sculpted, coiled or slab-built forms with wheel thrown ones to create functional pieces like mugs, bottles, large vases, or lidded containers. Bring your ideas and we will work together to figure out how to bring them to life!
Materials: Tools are not included in clay classes! The studio supplies clay and glazes which are paid for through end of semester firing fees! Some tools sets are available at the Studio for communal use, however we suggest purchasing your own set to have.
