Instructor: Laura Gould

Join us for a two-day workshop of play with clay and underglazes!
The first day will be learning the foundation of creating a small form and manipulating the clay buy adding clay and removing clay to get the basic form. Using simple tools you will play with textures and detail on your animal forms.
The second day you will bring in your animals not quite leather hard so you can add any last minute touches and then we will paint your animals with underglazes and get them ready for bisque firing, and then the final glaze firing.
To prepare for your class please bring in photos of the animal you would like to portray. We will simplify the animal form so it will be easy to translate into clay. Some suggestions would be a fox, raccoon, groundhog, owl, bear, cat, or dog. Make print outs of your animal so you can refer to them as you work or have them in your photos on your phone or iPad. A great place for photo resources is Pinterest where you can search for you animals 🙂

Bring your own favorite tools for hand building 🙂 If you don’t have any tools there will be tools available.

This workshop is intended for individuals who have some clay experience! Your finished piece will be kiln-fired and ready for pickup within two weeks.
About the Instructor: Laura Gould
I studied at The School of Visual Arts in NYC and then moved to a small liberal arts college in the midwest where I completed my degree in art. I moved back to New York and did some illustration….which lead me into 8 years of graphic design. I later studied botanical art at the New York Botanical Garden. After teaching botanical art for 15 years I have rediscovered my love for oil painting and the joy of painting outdoors known as plein air. I continue to teach Botanical Art, Nature Journaling and Plein Air. Each art form informs the other.
