Instructor: Jess Palmer
Discover the joy of making porcelain jewelry in this 4 week mini-series. Perfect for beginners and experienced ceramists alike, this mini-series provides a great opportunity to get creative on a small scale. Students will learn the basic techniques for making porcelain earrings, pendants, and other wearable accessories from design to completion. Forming, refining, glazing, and finishing will all be demonstrated and discussed. Finally, students will be assisted in solving design challenges and bringing their pieces to life through completion.
Techniques:
• Handbuilding with porcelain slabs, cutting shapes, adding texture
• How to refine, store, and properly dry pieces
• How to work with pliers and high-fire wire to build a solid foundation for connecting parts and pieces
• How to decorate pieces through surface design techniques such as slip trailing, incising, stamping, and underglazes
• Introduction on how to use epoxies and findings to finish your pieces
Students are responsible for purchasing their own findings for finishing their pieces such as cording, chain, ear wires, posts and backs, etc.
