About

Instructor: Charlotte Holden

Throughout history naturalists around the world have used nature journaling as a way to document, describe, and organize what they observed. This practice has been incredibly important in the study of the natural world, especially our flora and fauna. Art is a form of observation not only of the physical nature of objects, but how they fit into our environments, what they mean in our lives, and how they make us feel. Composition and color are used to bring ideas to life and they can have a profound effect on how we understand the subject of our work. In this workshop we will work from a combination of provided objects and photos to compose a “sketchbook” page that focuses on the aspects of those objects and images that interest you and how they relate to each other. We will pay special attention to scale, texture, color, detail, and function to help inform our compositions, beginning with graphite and/or pen sketches and then adding color with watercolors. Come join us for an afternoon of nature-based observation, discussion, and fun!
Art and observational materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Workshop tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE! By registering for a workshop at Railyard Arts Studio you are agreeing to our terms & policies. You will receive an email confirmation of your purchase (please check spam)!
