About

Instructor: Todd Hickerson

Join Todd Hickerson for hands-on projects using some of Mayco’s newest 2026 glazes! Level up your pieces with new Stoneware glazes, Fluxes, Stroke and Coats, and Fundamentals Underglazes, while learning best practices with Mayco products.  Mayco will supply all glazing materials and will have some bisqueware available for use. We recommend bringing 3 bisqued pieces! Firing fees are NOT included in the cost of this workshop for Railyard students and members. Non-Railyard artists and students must take their pieces with them to be fired elsewhere!

This workshop will run as four 1.5 hour sessions! The same information will be repeated in each session so please only sign up for one time slot!

About Mayco: Mayco Colors is one of the world’s leading producers of quality ceramics products. Founded in 1954, our company has been serving artists of all levels and backgrounds ever since. Our team consists of manufacturing personnel with over 40 years of service, former owners of paint-your-own-pottery, clay, and traditional studios, art educators with active teaching certificates, and recent Fine Arts graduates from several area colleges. Ceramics isn’t just our job—it’s what we went to school for, it’s what we do in our free time, and it’s the art form we admire above all else.

About Todd Hickerson: My passion for art was nurtured by the “American Da Vinci, my great uncle Viktor Shreckengost. However, I didn’t begin to play with clay until college. I dove hands first into the medium at The Ohio State University where I received my BFA with a focus in ceramics. Between 15 years in the Army and the “battles” of growing a beautiful family, I have found time to expand my clay knowledge with numerous residencies, workshops, and teaching opportunities. I have studied at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute of Art, held residences in China, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, was the studio tech at John Bryan Community Pottery, taught elementary art, was the resident artist/instructor at Clayspace/Gallery 831 for seven years, and have taught workshops throughout the world. I am blessed with the opportunity to get my hands dirty in clay everyday while working for Mayco as a designer, technical support, new product development, and instructor.

Please note that we are only accepting card payments through our website for this workshop! No Venmo, Zelle, cash, or check!
