About the Class

Instructor: Cathleen Newsham
http://modernmosaicarts.com/

Join professional mosaic artist Cathleen Newsham in this relaxing weekend workshop, where you will be creating a mosaic mandala, which is a circle with repeating symmetrical shapes, and considered a sacred symbol of healing and gratitude.

Using a 12” round wooden board as your base you will learn how to design your mandala, cut tiles using nippers, and learn techniques of adhering tiles, beads, ceramic and other materials to your base to create beautiful works of geometric mosaic art.  Each piece will have a focal point in the center, and Cathleen will provide objects that you can use for this purpose, or you can bring an item from home.

It will be possible to finish the mosaic during the 2 day workshop, but if you do not, Cathleen will give a grouting demonstration and send grout and supplies home with everyone who did not complete their project.  When completed your mosaic will be ready to hang indoors.

Cathleen will supply a limited number of wheeled glass tile nippers, but if students have their own nippers, they are encouraged to bring them.  There will also be a limited number of protective eye goggles, but students will be supplied with links to purchase their own or they can wear their own prescription eyeglasses. Please visit the “Materials” Tab for other suggested materials.
There will be one 45-minute break for lunch each workshop day.
